Mission

To lead men in preventive actions and strategies to reduce the homicide rate in the city of Philadelphia. • Men United For A Better Philadelphia is a diverse group of men representing dozens of religious, fraternal and community- based organizations throughout Philadelphia.

History

MUBP, founded in January of 2002, initially formed in response to the alarming drug-related homicides and shootings prevalent in 2002. The group’s activities and sphere of infl uence has expanded to include the following core elements of services: • Truancy Intervention Services coordinated through DHS • Street Corner outreach (providing life-saving, life-skill and social service information to men) • Job placement and intake services (most of the men placed were formally incarcerated) • Outreach & prevention services to youth ages 10 to 15.

MUBP School-Based Activities

School Safety Support via the Offi ce of School Climate and Safety In all emergencies, the primary objective is to provide protection for all students, staff, and the public. They also recruit men to get actively involved with the students, the school community and encourage their on-going participation in positive activities that contributes to the safety of the students, faculty, families and community.

 

MUBP is a volunteer effort Co-Chaired by Malik Aziz, Ray Jones, Jr., and Bilal Qayyum. It is directed by Mark Harrell, MHS.
